The_Angel_Appearing_to_the_Shepherds_(Thomas_Cole).jpg

It is fitting that God chose lowly shepherds to be among the first to hear the Good News. He sends a choir of angels to proclaim the coming of Jesus Christ not just in words, but in music. "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will" (Luke 2:14). This joyful exaltation should be familiar to all Catholics as it begins one of the greatest songs of praise in our Mass, the Gloria. For a season, we have been without the Gloria; we are happy to announce its return this Christmas.

We will be singing the Gloria in Latin using the universal Misa de Angelis setting (appropriately titled "Mass of the Angels").  While we have sung it in past seasons at our parish, it might remain somewhat unfamiliar to many of you. We encourage all families to make it a priority to become more familiar with this Gloria which has been sung by millions of Catholics all around the world for hundreds of years.  We will also sing it during the festive season of Easter.

Our music ministry team has provided the perfect tool for us all to learn this Latin Gloria. Please click the link below and practice by singing along.

Gloria in excelsis Deo
et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis.
Laudamus te,
benedicimus te,
adoramus te,
glorificamus te,
gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam,
Domine Deus, Rex caelestis,
Deus Pater omnipotens.

Domine Fili unigenite, Jesu Christe,
Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius Patris,
qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis;
qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem nostram.
Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, miserere nobis.

Quoniam tu solus Sanctus, tu solus Dominus, tu solus Altissimus,
Jesu Christe, cum Sancto Spiritu: in gloria Dei Patris. Amen.
