SERVANTS WANTED
God calls all the faithful to serve the mission of Christ and His Church in some way. Below are the parish ministries for which we have an immediate need for help. To find out more about each ministry and how to contact the ministry lead, please click the bold-faced title. Please prayerfully discern if God is calling you to supply one of these needs through your generous gift of time and talent.
LITURGICAL MINISTRIES
Altar Servers
Do you have a strong desire to serve during liturgical celebrations and Mass at the Altar of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? If you answered "YES", are at least 9 years old, received your First Holy Communion, and your registered family attends mass regularly at OLMC, this ministry is seeking additional dedicated servers.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
Fully initiated Catholics who have a great love for the Eucharist to assist with the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass. We currently need EMs for all Masses.
Ministers of the Word (Lectors)
Volunteers are required to proclaim at Sunday Mass at least once every three months. Daily Mass lectors are also most welcome and proclaim as frequently as they can. Volunteers should have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. New Lectors will be added once every year at the beginning of the Liturgical Year. There will be an annual seminar/training for new lectors prior to their first Mass.
Hospitality
Your friendly, smiley face is welcomed to enhance the weekend Mass experience for our parish community. Hospitality ministers are needed to serve the Saturday 5:30pm Vigil Mass, and Sunday 8am, 9:45am and 11:30am Masses. Duties include greeting/welcoming, facilitating Mass seating and Holy Communion flow. There are openings for set-rotations and in the Floater pool (serves occasionally).
Contemporary Choir Member
Seeking Catholics who have a great love for sacred music, a pleasant singing voice, and enthusiasm for more contemporary worship music to sing at our 4:30pm Sunday Mass. Practices are Wednesdays from 7-8:30pm.
Traditional Choir
Seeking Catholics who have a great love for sacred music and a pleasant singing voice to sing in our Traditional Choir once-per-month sings at the 8:00am or 11:30am Masses.
Schola
Seeking Catholics who have a love for sacred music, a pleasant singing voice, and excellent musical training and experience. Audition required for entry. This choir sings weekly at the 9:45am Mass and practices on Thursdays from 7pm-8:30pm.
FAITH FORMATION
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Assistant
We are looking for individuals who are interested in assisting our young children (3-5 years old) as they encounter God and grow in their faith through essential and age appropriate contemplative practices through our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd formation. This will be approximately a 3 hour weekly commitment. Volunteers will choose one of the weekly session to assist in through the year. The commitment for this is a minimum of one year.
Elementary Faith Formation Lead Catechist
OLMC Elementary Faith Formation is in need of fully initiated individuals who are interested in proclaiming the Word of God and the truths of the Catholic Church to children ages first –fifth grades in weekly formational classes. This is approximately a 2.5 hours weekly commitment that requires creating a loving, positive, and fun environment for the children to grow in faith though prepared lessons. Volunteers will choose a grade level for which she or he will conduct weekly classes. The commitment for this is a minimum of one year.
Middle School
The Middle School Faith Formation program is looking for adult catechists who will not only inform children about their faith, but also form them in their faith as strong group leaders. Volunteers must be comfortable working with preteens, and will be responsible for facilitating small group discussions on curriculum topics. Meetings take place bi-monthly on Thursday nights from 6-8pm. We are currently looking for both male and female catechists to assist with the program.
RCIA
Our RCIA team is in need RCIA team can use volunteers to sponsor candidates and catechumens. You need to be practicing Catholics, and willing to walk with a catechumen or candidate through their faith journey. The classes begin in September and ends at Pentecost.
OTHER MINISTRIES
Ambassadors
OLMC Ambassadors are volunteers who serve as liaisons between our parish office staff and our faith community. They serve to guide and connect parishioners with information they’re seeking and direct them to staff who can provide further assistance. Ambassadors are dedicated in carrying out the mission of our church by raising awareness of parish life and the many ways to get involved. Our vibrant parish offers special events, numerous ministries, prayer groups, works of mercy, volunteer opportunities and more! Ambassadors serve at an outdoor table in the courtyard every 4th weekend of each month, assist with new parishioner orientations 2x year, annual PQ Fiesta & OLMC Ministry Fair.
Cancer Ministry
The Cancer Ministry needs heart-felt parishioners willing to serve those with cancer. If you are a cancer survivor, have had those close to you impacted by cancer, or want to help those with cancer, we welcome your participation. We are also looking for parishioners in the medical field willing to give talks to our ministry and the parish.
Events Ministry
OLMC Event Ministry volunteer will help support the Administrative Assistant to the Pastor/Events Coordinator in various OLMC Events. Events can be held on weekdays or weekends. This may include luncheons, dinners, receptions, occasional table after Mass volunteers, and other parish events.
Food for Families
We are committed to alleviate hunger in our parish community by partnering with the hunger-relief, non-profit organization Feeding San Diego.
Mental Health Ministry
There are many ways to serve if you have a heart for helping people living with mental illness or families experiencing distress. Lend an ear, share your compassion, and God’s love. Cultivate your talents and join our efforts in outreaching to OLMC's parish community. This ministry provides volunteer training to accompany others and offer encouragement, prayers, practical support, and resources
Pro-Life Ministry
The Pro-Life Ministry is in need of volunteers to help promote the sanctity of life through the performance of Corporal Works of Mercy in compassion and love. Activities include participating in public prayer vigils and pro-life activities, sharing alternatives to abortion and abortion healing resources, facilitating community education programs, assisting with the Pro-Life Resource tables after Masses, and collaborating with local pregnancy resource centers.
