A Social Media Platform Just for Us
OLMC has created a “Mighty Network” just for parishioners. This is a social media platform similar to Facebook. When you join, you will see a feed with short posts, articles, poll questions, images, links, and videos. You can “like” or comment on the posts. Various parish groups will have a presence on the platform with their own posts. You can control what and how much you want to see. There is an excellent mobile app as well.
Unlike Facebook, the parish has control over this platform. The experience will be less chaotic. There are no third party advertisements or data collection. We can discuss our faith without outsiders injecting their own agendas into the conversation.
The button below will take you to the OLMC Mighty Network landing page where you can begin the process to join the network. Before you click, here are a few points we want to highlight:
The network is restricted to OLMC active parishioners who are 18 years of age and older. If you are unsure of your status in the parish database, click here.
When you go to the landing page and “Request to Join,” you will get a confirmation e-mail. MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR JUNK MAIL so you don’t miss this. It may take 24-hours from the time of your request before receiving the confirmation e-mail.
Create your profile. Say a little about yourself and make sure to include a picture of your face. This will show up in a little circle whenever you comment and in the member list. This will help all of us associate the names with the faces of our fellow parishioners.
Set your notification preferences. You can determine how and what kind of notifications you receive. For example, if you don’t want to receive a notification every time someone “likes” your comment, turn that off.
Browse the groups and join one or more. Some groups have limited membership. For example, there are Faith Formation groups that are limited to the parents of children enrolled in our faith formation classes. Other groups, such as Marriage and Family Life, are open to all parishioners on the network. More groups will be added in the future.
Be respectful. Practice charity and justice online. We don’t have a list of rules, but comments will be monitored and can be flagged.
Be prudent. OLMC does not verify or vet the network members beyond checking if their name is on the active parishioner list. It is possible that a fellow parishioner might be dishonest or otherwise act with bad intentions. If someone contacts you via the chat function and it seems suspicious, contact a network host.
Download the mobile app by going to Google Play or The App Store and searching “Mighty Networks.” You can access the network either by mobile app or through an internet browser, whichever you prefer.
In our beta testing, we have found that the site works best when you refresh the browser page (clicking circle arrow) or app (downward swipe on phone surface) somewhat often, which will enable you to see new posts and comments reliably.
If you have any difficulties, please contact Maria at mariad@olmc-sandiego.org.
